Aqsens Health’s board of directors strengthened with medtech industry expertise – An interview with Tuomo Pätsi

Tuomo Pätsi is elected to Aqsens Health's board of directors. Picture text reads, quote: Science is core to Aqsens and first and foremost it is critical to stay true to the heritage and to retain this strength.

Aqsens Health is happy to announce that Mr. Tuomo Pätsi has been elected to Aqsens Health’s board of directors at Aqsens Health’s annual general meeting.  Mr. Pätsi has over 30 years of experience in the medical industry, and he has led several biotech companies through successful market-entry and commercialization.  We spoke to Mr. Pätsi about his background, inspirations, and how he sees Aqsens Health moving forward in the next few years.

Could you briefly describe your background and experience in the healthcare industry?

Throughout my career I have had the chance to be part of some of the major growth stories in the global biotech industry, and to participate in commercializing medical innovations, mainly in the area of cancer.

During my more than 10 years at Amgen in Europe and in the U.S. I held both strategic and operational roles of increasing responsibility. At Celgene I led the growth of the company’s international business as President EMEA and President Worldwide Markets. My last executive role in the industry was with Seagen, as member of the Executive Committee, specifically responsible for the international expansion of the company. Following these experiences, I currently work as an advisor and board member in the healthcare industry.

What are some of the main things that inspire you in your work?

What inspires me is what is common to the research-based healthcare industry – finding new solutions to improve the lives of patients. Knowing that your efforts serve a good purpose is a very compelling reason to use all your energy to help bring forward new innovations based on the great science out there.

What do you think Aqsens could achieve in the future? What are our strengths?

Aqsens has an extremely strong scientific base and has already identified several potential applications to its technology. Importantly there are opportunities in areas where there are big unmet medical needs and where improved diagnostic methods can make a meaningful difference to patients’ lives. There is also a passionate team in place who have a very complimentary set of skills which is needed to continue to advance the technology and generate the evidence needed to ultimately bring the products to market.

What’s the direction you would like to see Aqsens head towards during the next few years?

Science is core to Aqsens, and first and foremost it is critical to stay true to the heritage and to retain this strength. At the same time, new skills and resources are needed as the company moves towards commercialization. This will be an exciting journey and the future of Aqsens is full of promise.

Aqsens Health’s team is extremely happy to begin working with Mr. Pätsi as the company moves to the exciting commercialization stage of its research.
